Broody Hen HELP!!!

LOL...VERY true! I have a Bantam Cochin and she is VERY determined when she goes broody! We finally decided to let her hatch some babies :)

I have a molted Java who hatched out chicks early spring then 4 weeks later wanted to do it again and hatched out 10 more... I let her because she gets up and eats everyday and is super healthy, doesn't lose any weight when she broods..

if she gets like this again i do have fake eggs she can sit on. do u think once she is broken i can introduce her to the chick or do u think she will just peck at it.

She should be broody for atleast two weeks before attempting to introduce a chick and the chick must be a new one, not more than a few days old.. You must do it at night, cover the chick with your hand so she cannot see it and slip it under her from behind (her butt) along side and under her wing (so she doesn't crush it) Leave the fake eggs until the next day.

yup to far.. well i am going to look on craigs list and see what i can find. thanks for all your help. talk with you soon...

She is a good broody! This is my girls(and mine) first time so I am watching her carefully to make sure she stays healthy! Probably watching her WAY more than needed....LOL! But can't help it

I'm not an old hand but this is the third broody (fourth time hatching) and I love it... I was nervous the first time too...Have a BA that I worried and clucked over...I darn near killed the chicks due to my obsessiveness, I have a rule now.. I leave momma alone to do the job these gals have been doing for thousands of years without us..

On Edit:
I make sure she is secure and has access to food and water, fresh grass and a dust bath but that's all I do
