Broody Hen - how long does it last?

"A night in the box...."

yeah, there's no place snuggly in there, just an upside down plastic bin with an open bottom and wire mesh below that. Sounds like a couple more days will be necessary to do it.

Thanks again,

am a new chicken owner...am so happy to know that I have 2 hens that are willing to hatch on their own..I may be very happy some day if it is not possible to use an incubator (NO electricity) for any reason..1 little fizzle - 1 game hen so far...sure hope my buff orpingtons (4) decide also...don't really need chicks - 18 month olds - 26 just incubated and hatched - 8 from Precious fizzle - game hen sitting on 12......but....I just put up the incubator (ha) and will watch for new natural MOMMAs...sounds like a plan...they say when you continue to BREAK the habit they eventually wont't go broody any more...doesn't sound right is it? Good luck to all.....G would like our flock to grow naturally.

Broody can be bad too... My Geena is going on a month & a half and is skinny from not eating normally. I make sure she eats, drinks, and gets out at least twice a day. She is adamant about trying to hatch those pine shavings. We don't even have a rooster.

I feel so bad for her, but Hubby says NO MORE CHICKENS.

When she was broody I would make sure I'd give my hen a toss off the 'ol nest a couple times a day. Then she would eat big, drink big and poop big.

PS, try selling him on a banty, they are, like, 1/2 a chicken!
