Hi!! So my Silkie hen was broody, and hatched out 2 chicks. I put 2 (same age) Silkie chicks under her on night two. Two eggs were still under her and not viable (I candles on day 22). I followed all the rules...took the eggs out and replaced with chicks under her at night. Woke up the next day to her refusing to let them under her and pecking at them whenever they come near. The weird thing is one of the chicks is the exact same color as one of hers that hatched and she never pecks that black one only the new bakcj one. I can’t even tell them apart!! Help!! What to I do? I would really not like to raise two babies in a brooder box in our house again when the other babies are the same age as these. Any suggestions?

You tried to pull a fast one on this girl and she knows it. She won't accept them, can't force her. She will injure them badly if you keep forcing.

I have done this before but not with this particular hen. So I just assumed all broody mamas accept chicks if they are around the same age and put together within first 24hours. I didn’t even know chickens could see color?! But I’m thoroughly confused slashed amazed at how she can tell the two identical black ones apart!

So there’s no chance whatsoever of her accepting them and just take them out from under her? She doesn’t peck to kill it’s just a peck that is like hey you’re not mine (gently push away). I’ve had a broody want to kill new chicks that aren’t hers so I know there’s various degrees of indifference haha....
