Broody hen on peacock eggs - Update on peacock eggs

Aww I am so sorry!

Last year I had the same thing happen to my EE (Lucy) Only I kept her in a coop and I believe a coon got into her cage and killed her and her smashed her eggs!!!

Hope the eggs make it!

I checked the barn this morning and whatever it was, and I'm guessing coon at this point, returned and ate the 5 nonfertile eggs I left in Ms. Broody's nest. They shells were broken on the ground and scattered throughout the barn. It didn't get any eggs out of the other nests. I always leave about 3 eggs in every nest so they will lay in those nests the next morning. If I don't, they go find a new place to lay and I discover hidden nests with dozens of eggs. However, now that something has discovered we have chickens and we have eggs I'm guessing I can't leave eggs in nests in barn any longer and I'm starting to get worried that if I don't whatever it is will try and get into coop.

So is this a case of darned if I do and darned if I don't? I'm even thinking should I put out lots of dry dog/cat food out back of barn and just feed the starving wildlife so they won't need to kill/eat my chickens/eggs. Heck I'm getting so many more eggs than what we need - I could put eggs out back on a silver serving tray.

By the way I candled the peacock eggs last night and it looks like at least 3 are fertile and maybe the other 3 as well just couldn't see the same veins as clearly but I have a weak flashlight. Of course it doesn't mean they survived being left for the night (could have happened early mornng) so I'll candle again later - it was afterall only day 5 for the peacock eggs when I candled so hard to tell.

i doubt they are starving. they are just being wildlife. opportunists. if you feed them they will just stick around more, since they dont have to look for food. but if they see an easy meal they will take it, full or not. what was Rex's excuse this time?
