I have a broody bantam light brahma. She is about 36 weeks old and has 7 eggs in her nest but 2 of the eggs she keeps pushing out and away from the nest. I marked the eggs and it is always the same 2 eggs. Why is she doing this? does she know something I don't....like these eggs are no good?
she is my first broody that I have let sit so I am not sure whats going on.
She is in her own copp away from the rest of the flock now.

thank so much.

I think they are either duds or she is telling you five is enough. I have a broody BR sitting on seven right now, she started with nine and pushed two out. They are pretty smart and know what they can handle!

I went ahead and took them out. I am going to candle them here in a bit and see if I see anything weird about them.
I guess I am just worried that she may be too young.
I am really excited about these chicks though cause they will be a cross bantam White Silkie Roo with a bantam Light brahma hen. I think they will be beautiful and from what I have read they may be sexlinked from this type of cross.

So I candled the eggs and they didn't have any veining in them so we went ahead and cracked them open. One egg had a yolk and the little tinny white circle in the egg but nothing else and the other the yolk wasn't even in tack so I am thinking they must have been bad and thats why she was trying to get them away. I am in aww of how smart hens are. She seems happy as a clam now and sitting on the other eggs. such a good little mommy.
Thank you for the help.
