My white rock hen is sitting some duck eggs as of yesterday. She sat her own for a week before that while I was waiting to get them. So several times today I have found her outside the coop. Each time a different hen had kicked her out of the nest and was laying. So I moved her nest (in a cat pan bottom) into a big plastic dog crate placed in a spare run (totally enclosed with hardware cloth) next to the coop. She's dutifully back on the eggs. She has always been the top hen. Broodiness has made her dreamy and mellow.
Will she be unhappy away from the others - especially at night? She'll have her own food and water. I know she's safe out there.

She'll be much more content and focused away from the others. Good job on taking care of her! And good luck with your hatch!
