I'm going to be using my broody Austrolorp to incubate my Red Golden Pheasant eggs. Today, my Red Golden hen laid her first egg, which has left me with a question I never thought to ask. Do I wait until she's finished laying to give the eggs to the Austrolorp? If so, how do I know she's done? The Austrolorp has been broody for the past week.

I'm actually not sure if I want to have the Red Golden hen have two clutches of eggs this year. This is her first breeding season and I have no experience breeding Red Goldens, so I'm still not sure if I want to take away her April clutch so that she'll have a June clutch. I will definitely be using the Austrolorps next year though, so either way I need to know how exactly I should go about transferring eggs to a chicken.

Wait until you have a full clutch before you place the eggs under your broody. Otherwise they will not hatch out at the same time. Keep them in a cool room in an egg carton that is raised at one end, and switch the raised end 2-3 times daily.
