So I am fairly new to chickens approx a year. We have had hens go broody but never let them sit on eggs. We had a few go broody, initially two, a few weeks ago. We figured okay let's give them a chance. So I marked the eggs dates and we candled them last week. We now have two hens laying in one box, 3 eggs only two are for sure growing. One hen in another box 3 eggs growing. One hen laying on a box on the porch we take her eggs and put her in the coop nightly. So I do expect to get 5 babies if all goes well. But I thought maybe I should get a few additional babies to make the porch layer happy and to give the two moms less to fight over. Can you do this? Will the moms except chicks when they have some babies that will hatch on their own? Suggestions/thoughts. Eggs were 4/4 and 4/5 so we should have babies next weekend.

Welcome to BYC!
Please keep a close eye on the hens once the eggs start hatching...to make sure they don't kill the chicks.
It happens all the time.

Ok thanks I will do my best! Hoping they hatch on weekend so work doesnt get in the way
