I had a continual broody hen and went on to let her sit on some purchased fertile eggs whilst I incubated others. One of her eggs hatched and 2 incubated. These are now 17 weeks old and doing brilliantly. This has not stopped madam from going broody again however and the only way I have found to interrupt this is to remove her from her roost each time she starts to settle and empty out all bedding from it during the day. I think offering her fertile eggs would be best done in the spring when the threat of severe cold is past. It certainly is a lovely learning curve owning chickens. someone did suggest moving her to a dog kennel for a few days without bedding or dousing her bottom into a bucket of cold water. I never actually tried these. I think the cooling weather will put a stop to her broodyness till next spring. Nights drawing in also.Hi everyone,
I have 2 other threads about my broody hen about breaking her...I've not been able to yet, so I was wondering if there is still time to stick a few fertilized eggs under her. I thought maybe I could hatch two chicks, raise them until 8-12 weeks, then sell them. Would this work? I have a friend that might be able to give be a few fertile eggs.
Thanks!

P.S.
Is it to close to winter?
