Broody hen...should I hatch eggs?

Hi everyone,

I have 2 other threads about my broody hen about breaking her...I've not been able to yet, so I was wondering if there is still time to stick a few fertilized eggs under her. I thought maybe I could hatch two chicks, raise them until 8-12 weeks, then sell them. Would this work? I have a friend that might be able to give be a few fertile eggs.

Thanks!

-Clucky

P.S.
Is it to close to winter?
I wouldn't recommend giving her eggs to hatch right now. To close to winter. I'm not sure where you're located and how cold your winters are, but I would highly recommend not hatching chicks right now if your winters are anything cold. :)

Not if she hasn't been broody for a couple weeks...
....and you've determined that she's not broody at all, correct?

Hu? No, she is broody right now and has been for 2 weeks and a few days. I'm afraid she will give up half way through the hatch. She is sitting on fake eggs right now, so if I put 1 or 2 little chicks by her side...will that work? She will get off of the nest and take care of them, correct?

Sorry, maybe I mixed you up with someone else.
You can try to graft the chicks onto her, do it soon, they just hatched?
Usually best to slip them under her at night...but might want to read up on it.
Here's one search:

might try different key words for more...
...or start a new thread with a descriptive title about giving chicks to a broody.
