Broody Hen...some questions

also, I know she wasn't very nice to me when I lifted her initially to get eggs and I'm sure she wouldn't be so nice to another hen trying to "move her" LOL

Update!!!! my silky mix has turned into quite the broody one!!! she hatched 3 of her own and of of my RIR mix gets jealous and she hatched 2 of her own....so I started with 5 little chicks and ALL of the hens were soooo protective so it went well, problem is the little chicks can fit thru the chicken wire and I now have 2 teenagers left which is fine, I didn't want to take the time and if the momma's were going to do it, they were going to do it on their own. I now have 2 teenage hens and silky mix momma just hatched another 2 days ago...looks just like her and we've caught baby outside the run twice and we'll see, but it's going well....the babies do well with our flock, I only put the baby waterer out there and don't change any feed, babies get layer or they don't eat....sorry, not to sound mean but I didn't necessarily want more chicks but if momma's are going to take care of it..it's working for us, will post some pic's this week!!

Take care all! have a great week! Con....

Congratulations! Sounds like she's a good little mama! Nothing better than a good broody! I've got one of the best in my silkie mama... she's currently ready to die for the 7 eggs she's sitting on.

Have fun!
