Broody Hen Thread!

What do you guys make of this egg? My broody has been on eggs for 9 days...I enhanced to see the veining....but the insides seem sloshy...normal?
the veins look good....but if it's sloshing around when you move it...it might have started to develop and for what ever reason..it quit. Maybe put it back for a few more days.

Hey! Great idea! I can do that! I have a little dorm fridge that isn't being used at the moment. Some pop, a few Yogurts. About this thime 16 paws is thinking, Gaaaaa don't encourage her!

Mezzer, my hen has been a little witch the past two days and this little girl is usually the sweetest thing ever to sprout feathers. I think it's the heat. But whatever it is, if looks could kill I'd be dead by now. I left the coop fan on for her tonight. Hopefully she will be a little more comfortable.

I might as well pich a tent in my coop. Lol. A nice little fridge and a comfy bed and no spouse on my side. Lol! I may NEVER need to leave this coop..

And our heat wave is over. I'm so glad I
Don't need to worry about that on hatching day. Of course we have a wind storm coming in though

Maybe not sloshing...but I can see the insides move when I move the egg....like a clear eggs yolk will move....the shell is brown so this is the first day I was able to see anything. I don't see a dot that would be the embryo...or is it the c shaped blob in the center?

Had three broody hens switching between nest boxes...I tried to move them into separate chicken tractors....but even one of them when bonkers when separated from the other birds...so I let them play games till just before hatch started...then I blocked them into the nest with eggs....even took two that were peeping and stuffed th under the broody with no eggs....as soon as they hatched I moved them each to a broody tractor coin the dark of night. Worked so far. But I won't let them play that nest bingo again. I lost half a dozen chicks due to it. Never again.

Sorry to hear that you lost 6 chicks, the poppster. Silly hens. Sometimes you just have to count your losses and move on.

KellyR I think I know what you are talking about. I saw the same thing in my eggs the first time I candled. The eggs hatched normally so try not to worry. Just as advised, pop it back under the hen and re-candle in a few days. I was thinking that the veining on your egg looked pretty normal and healthy.

I love my chickens but no way I'm moving to the barn where the broody coop currently is. I like my creature comforts too much. I might be able to validate putting the dorm fridge there but no way I could convince my husband that the chicken wants satellite TV installed.

DVD player and a tv remote with fresh battery's and your good to go. Let your husband look for you. If he don't know to look in the coop by now...he'll figure it out. Lmao. Mine knows I never leave without my phone so he'd just call me. Lol
