This is day 9 my silkie hen has been sittin on her 6 eggs and when she came out today she was more skinny than usally and I know they lose weight while broody but is there any thing special I can give her?

Well that is good and do silkies go broody at random intervals or do they have a broody season?
Here is a post from a few weeks back that I put up...Along with the meat and vegetables as JHarper suggested you can also provide cut up fish, scrambled eggs, peanuts and hulled sunflower seeds and meal worms. Basically anything with a decent protein content that is tempting if you are worried about her weight/health.
We just put a small amount of 2 or 3 items in a dish and set it close by each day. They pick at what they want. It usually isn't needed if they aren't broody for more than 3 or 4 wks but some hens just don't keep weight on as well as others.
They do get up to eat and drink through the day, we just rarely see them do it. I lifted our broody today to check the nest for broody poop and found the nest was clean, so she is obviously getting up when we aren't around to see it. They are pretty sneaky when on their eggs!
See my above post... I copied one of my others from a few weeks ago that should answer your questionThis is day 9 my silkie hen has been sittin on her 6 eggs and when she came out today she was more skinny than usally and I know they lose weight while broody but is there any thing special I can give her?
.Hi I'm only 13 and looking forward on having chickens when I grow up.I was wondering if I have a rooster and a hen but the hen is not going broody will I still have fertile eggs for the incubator. If u can reply I would be grateful. Thanks
Yup ny jump on in,,, and yes if your rooster is doing his job you can hatch all the eggs your hen can lay ,,,,Hi everyone...cute picsI have a Welsummer ,a BLRW, two silkie hens,a muscovy hen and a turkey hen on eggs right now, and 4 incubators full
Can I join??![]()
. Bantam silkies may fit in quail racks in a sportsman ,, but you can improvise and use styrofoam egg cartons with the bottoms cut out and turn them side to side by hand if you had to or you can use the hatching tray of the sportsman to incubate and hand turn also good luckDo u know if silkie eggs will fit in the sportman's 1502 inqubator .
