Broody Hen Thread!

Hey not sure if this if the right place to post. But I have 11 chickens. An one on them is broody. We have no roosters so the eggs are not fertilized. She will lay on the eggs as soon as they are layed. When I come to gather the eggs she puffs up and try's to peck me. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Search the forum for "broody breaking" you should find several good threads.

What is the most eggs your broody has sat on and how many hatched?
My hen disappeared Easter weekend, I was so sad! Yesterday, she magically appeared with 10 chicks in tow! She had hatched them and returned 10 safely, even through a horrific spring snowstorm. She is AMAZING! I have no idea how many she actually laid though. You should see her tuck all 10 up into her feathers! I am in awe!

Great!!! Another great Example of put them by theirself and Leave them alone and they will hatch you some chicks!!! Love It!!

I am currently trying to get my turkey hens to lay on eggs. I love it when they hatch their own. I am going to let 4-5 hens lay on them this year.
Here is a picture of my hens with last years hatch. The chicks are about 3 days old.

I guess you are wanting your turkey hens to "SET". What are you doing to try and encourage them to set? If you succeed in being able to do this often-----please share and make a lot of Us old timers happy!!! LOL The most popular way is adding a real looking fake egg to a nest every day to see if it will make one get in the mood. Good Luck!

15! That is very impressive!!

My grafted babies are almost 2 weeks old and mama took them outside today for the first time. It has been pouring rain all week or I would have let them out sooner. They did great. Mama hen got in a fight with the next in command - #2 hen just went after the mama and mama fought her off - I did intervene to make sure the babies weren't in the way but I figured they had to re establish their pecking order and it didn't happen again.

Now I'm struggling with how to introduce the brooder babies. I have 4 in my garage. Do I...

Put their brooder out in the shed next to the mama hen and the others? (It is moveable)

Try to see if the mama hen will take them on too? Or are they too old?

Keep them in the garage for now and integrate them when they get their feathers in 1-2 weeks? (Using the playpen in the run method)?

I made this really complicated didn't I??

So thankful for this thread! I had no idea what was going on with my Salmon Faverolle until I started reading more about her actions. This is our first experience with hens and it was quite concerning seeing her in the nesting box so long! So, what advice do y'all have to break her??? Help!
