I have two Bantam hens sitting on a clutch of eggs together, they are all at different stages of development, A few I know we're very close to hatch day. I went out this morning to feed and water and found that they had pushed six eggs out of the nest box. It's 40° F this morning. Needless to say the eggs were ice cold. So I opened them up like I always do, and found two perfectly formed chicks one of the eggs which had started to pip. So sad!
So. My question is why would they do this to two perfectly good chicks and a bunch of other started ones?????
Thanks for any thoughts...
Haha, funny chickenI have a Silkie setting, & forgot to put the day she started in my calendar so I have no idea when they r due! LOL Good thing I know she's a good trusted mom I suppose! And she always lays in a dog house I've put in the ground, cause she refuses to go up the steps to the coop like everyone else, so I know the babies will be safe too! It'll be a nice surprise to go out & see babies some day.
One of my Silkie girls started sleeping on the nest tonight!!! Yay!![]()
