Broody Hen Thread!

Hooray for Scout!!!
For what it's worth, that doesn't look like a cockerel to me, but some breeds you can't tell that young by the comb.
Anyway, may I suggest yolk water to help give him a boost. =)

Thank you! Scout is a week old today and he's thriving. Agatha has astounded us with the way she acts like she's done this over and over again all of her life. She's 8 months old and this was her first time, but you'd never know it. She's now taking him/her on forays out and about and I could watch them all day. Katie is beside herself.....she giggled the other day and said, "Guess what, Gramma, I'm 8 years old and I'm already a chicken gramma!"

I'm gonna be new to this..I was told by a friend who has laying hen that you have put chicken in brooder?? Keep them warm. How Long do you keep them in there? Planning on doing my madden voyage in the spring....lol

I'm sorry I'm a bit late posting. Kids say the darnedest things. :) I'm glad Siddhartha and Scout are doing well!

What's your purpose in putting the chicken in a brooder?
For instance, I put chicks, broodies, sock chickens, etc.

I guess I'm confused......Imaybe gonna buy chick, am I to put them in a heat source till they are ready to go outside .....he told me brooder

I've been so busy following that it dawned on me - I haven't done an another update on Scout and Agatha now that she's teaching him to be a chicken. She took him outside for the first time today. He wasn't at all sure he was ready for it!

Edited to add: If you look at the top of his head in the first picture you can see the little star there. Can't see it in the bottom picture, though. He has to be standing just right.
