Broody Hen Thread!

I'm a little overwhelmed with everything I've read about incubators. What is the least expensive one that you would recommend for a person who is not going to hatch that many eggs. I would want one that is reliable but doesn't cost a fortune.
Emmm there are a few out there...but i dont know!!!

I only have the big bators and im sure you dont want those!!!

I could go for more and more chickens. My husband on the other hand thinks the 18 we have are too many. He just can't see the potential yet but he's getting there.

WOW...2000 what did you do with them all??
I sold about 1800, keeping the rest. I am around 450(quessing) total Chickens/layers/chicks/roosters this morning because I sold 61 chicks/older hens/younger roosters/etc last night. With 69 eggs in lock-down----should start hatching today(day 20) and with about 275 eggs in the incubators. I just Like Playing with "them"!

Is it this one? Sanven Janoel 48 Eggs Digital Automatic Turner Incubator Hatcher with 2 Years Warranty Wonderful Poultry Hatcher Incubators with Free Candler
On Amazon it is pretty good price but elsewhere much more expensive.

There is a guy on eBay who made that nest box set. Maybe I could contact him and see if he could make me some inserts with handles. That would be cool.
Yea---also most any bigger Heating/AC guy that does metal duct work in your area can bend you some out of scrap. Put a add on craigslist---see what pops up.

I know a stay-at-home Mom that hatched a chick in a clay flower pot---alot of time but it can be done. I have several of the cheap styrofoam ones--Around $50 and I have good hatches in them---some have a problem with them. There are MANY ways to build your own and There are Many ready-made out there---You will just have to decide how much money and/or time you want to put in it. Give us a Highest you are willing to spend---and see how many ideas under your price people come up with!

Hey, I have an AC guy that lives across the street. Great idea. I'm thinking around $100 might be okay. I've read up on the make your own and it just seems so complicated, getting all the parts and having all the tools and then maybe some parts mess up when you have half developed eggs. I'm pretty involved with technology with birthing human babies but I don't have to build it, I just have to know how to use it.
