Broody Hen Thread!

Finally!!!! After almost 4 months of waiting my broody started laying. I was getting worried! While back she couldn't decide if she wanted to sit or not . I gave her more then a week then pulled clutch . Completely stopped laying after that! They are tiny eggs but I know they will get bigger. day number 2 of a egg from her. Yeah!

Emmm...my answer is yes!! We have about 2/3 broodies a week and they are forever getting up and moving the eggs!! I still get 100% hatch rates even with the most "movable "hen!!!

Same here.........

Wow! How do you have that many go broody? I sure wish my black sex link would go broody again.
I dont know...the one week last year 5 went broody on the same day!! Ever since then I just get a lot of broodies!! I also have like 150 hens soo...yeah there are enough chickens for that many to go broody!

That is impressive...especially the 100% hatch rate. What breed are you using? What are you hatching?
Lady of McCamley
I am using Barnyard Mix...they are soo colourful and they are the best broodies ever!!! I just hatch eggs from my own flock...so Barnyard Mix mainly!!!

I hatch from my own flock too, but my Yellow Buff hens only breed with the YB roosters, Rhode Island red hens with RIR roosters, Barred rock hens---yep with the BR rooster, the same for the Light Brahma. black copper, blue copper, speckled sussex, wyndottes etc, etc, all with their own kind!

Oh okay!! I would do that too, but I don't have enough pens!!! Plus I love the Barnyard Mix breed (not really) because they can be any colour and lay any colour egg!!

Yep Barn Yard Mix are Pretty. But people turn their nose up at the Auctions when Mixed Chicks go across the Auction Block---Being I sell I do not want Mixed. Having more pens is Nice but creates more work with everyone you add. I Know because I have added and added now I am up to 57 pens--besides the Hatching pens the pens range in size from 50sqft to 1 acre in size.
