Today I am going to try my hand at artificial insemination. My OEG Bantam Roo, Gorgeous George, can't figure out which end is which on the poor Frizzles. My Brahma Icelandic has been broody for 2-3 weeks now and is a proven broody. Wish me luck!

Thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing my LF Cochin with her ducklings. They have grown larger then her but she still insists on mothering them. They are now 6 weeks old and I plan on giving her 2 more weeks with them and if she has not let them go then I will separate them.

Love this! LOL. So what does she think when they want to take a swim? Have they tried to yet under her careful watch?

I wish you the greatest of luck...AI is not something I have attempted...or...er...wanted to, yet.

CUTE photos BTW.

Hmmmm, I am Slow---LOL. So what you are saying is you are going to artif-insem some laying Frizzle hens and put the eggs under your broody brahma? Two questions.

1--Do you feel you have enough time to collect a few eggs to put under her?

2--How do you intend to Do This??

First off i was not successful in the AI thing. It takes a lot of practice and when all you have is a youtube video.... Well all I managed to do was make a very horny rooster! It worked to get him going tho and the out come is what i needed!

It will take me 3 days to collect 1 doz eggs from my 2 frizzles and 2 OEG bantams. I keep them on the counter in an egg carton max. 3 days at room temp.

My 2 Brahmas are always ready and willing. I have to break them each many times a year. Mostly I just make them get off the nest a lot. Otherwise they would spend their entire life in the nest.

The first time this one went broody it was before last xmas. It was 10 weeks before she was successful in one egg hatching! My hens are my pets and doted on during broodiness when they actually have eggs. Scrambled eggs, oatmeal, scratch, fruits and veggies. And always privacy and fresh water. I am surprised at their determination!

They are very docile to me and near the end I can move them to a medium wire dog crate on the floor in the coop covered with a towel.

Nobody bothers the growlly monsters in the crate!

As to your other question, I'm not sure what your asking? How to AI? YouTube.

Thank you. They have not tried to swim on their own. I have put them in the pool and she did not seem to mind at all, although they did not stay in the pool long. I believe she has discovered that they are not chickens though. She has been taking them closer and closer to my ducks each day when I let them out to free range. I do not think that the ducklings believe they are ducks yet. I also think that she wants to be sure they have a place in the flock somewhere before she lets them go.

Hello again everybody! I have a slight emergency. At least I think I do. My little bantam hen that I posted on earlier has started another clutch. She had been sitting on them for almost five days (today was day 5). So again the other hens came in and busted one of the eggs. Well that covered her last egg in yoke. I don't know if it is ok to take a warm cloth down there and wipe it down seeing as that would remove the protective layer. But if I don't wipe it down won't all the pores be clogged with yoke....???? Please advise. Thank you. And yes I will have to attempt to move her tonight into a dog crate inside of the coop. Obviously she is just too small to defend her nest.
