Broody Hen Thread!

Ok so I found one rotton egg, I guessed as much a few days ago because it still looked rather yolky, but I checked them last night and one smelled funky. Sure enough, it was bad. So my question is, of the 3 silkie cross eggs left, one doesnt look like the other two, its much more transparent? But its not rotton smelling either, should I leave it and see?

I wrote earlier about my bantam cochin frizzle. She's my first broody so I wasn't sure when the first day of the 21 was and when I candled her 2 eggs they looked like they were 4-5 days apart. Well one hatched today! I heard a funny noise and mom moved a little and I saw a little black fuzzy thing slip back under next to the other egg, I wasn't expecting this one to hatch for 2 more days. Now I really have no clue when the other will hatch. I'm hoping it will soon so she doesn't have to pick one or the other. This grasshopper is tired of being patient! I want to go steal the baby and check it out and take pictures! My Mama hen is a black cochin frizzle. The roo is a blue splash silkie. The chick is at least part black. Does anyone know what my chick(s) are going to look like?

When you cross black with splash, the result is always blue. There is about a 50% chance that the chick will be frizzled. I have a black cochin/ silkie hen. She is a favorite here and an excellent mom. I'll try to get a photo of her today.

I put 6 eggs under my second broody Dark Cornish yesterday. She was so happy to finally get to have some eggs!

We moved her to a more private and secure location so that the other girls would stop laying eggs in there and she was throwing a fit and not wanting to go back in the nesting box, but then I put the eggs in there and she slowly went in making soft clucking noises and settled right down. So cute.
