Broody Hen Thread!

Hey 16Paws! Haven't seen you since we were both on the "two broodies" thread last year. Seems that thread has died. :(

I will hatch with ya, got two bantam eggs that pipped today and should hatch tonight (if everything goes well). I remember Layla from last year, and this year once again my little "Zilla" is the broody.

She went very broody and I had fertile eggs from my Ginger OEGB Rooster and BB Red hen so I let her sit on two. They won't be purebred but they should have great personalities and be eye candy nevertheless.

Those lavendar Americaunas sound lovely!
Hi Sonya,

Yes, I saw one of your posts on another thread and said hi! Good to hear from you.
Cant wait to see your babies!
How have you been?
I still say I am going to move to Georgia someday. I really am considering taking some time off and just checking it out. I am getting tired of them talking about rationing water here. That is one thing I dont like, seeing everything die from no water. I am scared I wont like the weather anywhere but here, maybe you can help me overcome that fear? hehe
My water bill was almost $400.00 for 2 months. It is getting so expensive just to live in southern ca!

Anyway, keep me posted about your babies will you? How many chickens do you have now?
Marie

I will definitely post about the babies!

And yeah....check out Georgia (spring/fall is the best time for a visit). Everything here is GREEN as far as the eye can see! Green grass, green trees, everywhere all year round (except for a few weeks in the dead of winter). If you move to a rural area you are on well water so you don't pay a water bill at all. I spent the first 30 years of my life in California so I understand your fear, the winters here are brief but I still can't stand the cold. :)

Thats sounds lovely.....I love green, I lived in Oregon for some time when I was a child but I think it rains there too much.

Did you have a hard time transitioning from Cal. to Georgia? Do you think it is cheaper to live there? How cold does it get in your parts? How about the summers, does it get real hot as well? Over 100? Sorry about all the questions

Hey all is not lost. That is if youve got a incubator. Okay first, It happens both ways around here. Some quit after the fast hatch ends. Others go the distance. But
Mostly they tend to take care of the job at hand. A bird in the hand so to speak. If thats the case and you have a bator go ahead and get it up to temp. When she quits the nest chick napp the rest. You can finish the job almost as well as her at that point.

Hi there,
My broody is due to hatch on saturday and sunday. I have been looking for someone who is due along with me!

I say saturday and sunday because she has banty eggs and LF

eggs. In my past experience the banty eggs seem to hatch on day 20. I havent candled any eggs and the last time I saw the eggs she had 11. 4 Lavender Americanas, 3 Olive Eggers and the rest are bantam cochins/silkies. Cant wait to see how many hatch and how she does with them. She has only had chicks grafted to her, never hatched her own. My broodys name is Layla and she is a beautiful blue Cochin.

What are you hatching?
Marie

Please explain what you mean by "chicks grafted to her..."
Thank you
