Broody Hen Thread!

Getting them to hold still is the challenge. They are quite different from my original flock as far as behavior is concerned. Their parents were quite willing to hold still for the camera but not these guys. There is only one that likes to perch on my arm and spend time with me. The rest have an agenda. It's called.....don't get caught or hold still!

For this, you could hold the bird while a good head shot is taken. At the age of your birds their body will give no clues to sex.

I use a butterfly net to catch the few birds that I have that are not tame. With bigger breeds I would think that a fishing net would work well.

Ok so I'm in a little Delimma here. I have a broody that wants to sit. Earlier I wouldn't have cared if she sat on the eggs, but I have already ordered some chicks from an online hatchery. And if she sits on the eggs they won't hatch until a week after my chicks are supposed to arrive from the hatchery. I want her to adopt the chicks that I ordered but I would also like to let her hatch out some chicks. What should I do? I feel as though if I let her hatch out chicks she won't adopt the other chicks because they will be a week old already.
