Broody Hen Thread!

It's her first time broody. She's pretty young still. Might it be a good idea to see if she sticks to her plan? :b
. Lmbo! Best advice I've been given all week! We shall be rich!!!

I see what you are saying. Be sure she is serious if you wish. I know someone that had a pullet go broody before she even laid her first egg.
Unicorn eggs can be purchased at ... :D

I have a broody, I need unicorn eggs to stick under her, and the universe gives me a parrot instead. I'm questioning the sanity of the universe today...o _o you've got to be kidding me kinda day...

And don't forget I have six chicks living in my spare bedroom still. :hmm

Today only, you can also get; hamster, penguin, polar bear, or zebra eggs!

She has two babies! And one egg remaining but the first two hatchlings are days ahead of schedule so I won't give up hope yet. The babies are moving around quite a bit and pop out from underneath Mama quite often. I am hoping she gives us the full show and brings them out tomorrow.
She has turned into a fire breathing dragon though. I offered her a drink of water and she almost took my hand off! Moving the food and water dishes with salad tongs for the time being.

You don't need to mess with the food or water dish at all, she should be fine for a couple of days and no reason to irritate or otherwise bother the broody during hatch. Upset hens do strange things and sometimes it can result in harm to a chick.

I hear ya, but it has been 95 degrees here and I haven't seen her get off her nest in days. She was really, really thirsty. Once she figured out what was going on and that I wasn't a chick snatcher she drank two small dishes of water.

I have a broody hen..And I had a broody duck that hatched out 2 batches of chicks..Out of the first 3, 2 died from her teaching them how to swim..This last batch I grabbed and stuck in the brooder..They are almost 2 weeks and sooo cute...

That is kinda funny. Not ha ha! I am sorry they drowned. In general, a chicken does better hatching ducks than a duck does chicks because of humidity.
The funny is because until yesterday, my two Pekin babies (a pair) never swam outside. For some reason, they are the surrogate parents of their brooder mates, Three poults and seven chicks. I thought that they were not swimming anymore (I had them swimming in the house) because they knew the chicks could not.
