My first broody hen hatched out her first clutch of eggs on the 14th of March. My question is how much time does she need to recoup before I can give her another clutch of eggs to sit on. Don't get me wrong I don't plan on having her constantly sitting on eggs. I have access to some Cream Legbar eggs and would like to hatch a set this spring. The sooner they hatch the sooner I get my lovely blue eggs.

I don't want to stress out my broody hen to much either.

Thanks for your help.

I may be wrong, but I think the choice of when she's ready to sit on eggs, will be hers, not yours. I can't recall having a broody ready to go back to setting anytime soon, after raising a batch of chicks. It seems like they raise the chicks, get back into laying, molt and by then, it's been about a year has gone by.

She is a bantam cochin who seems to be on broody overdrive. During the day I usually put a light on the chicks for a couple of hours and kick her outside. She was so skinny when the chicks hatched I wanted her to go and eat, drink, scratch the grass get some fresh air and exercise. I also thought it would be good for her to remind her flock that she is still about. Most days she will do this for a little bit and then I will find her in the coop sitting in an empty nesting box guarding it like it has a clutch of eggs. That is why I think she would be more than willing to sit on another clutch of eggs. I just don't know how long she needs to recoup.
