Broody Hen Wont Leave Rotting Eggs

Hello All-

I have a broody who would not quit so I finally gave her a dozen eggs (eggs were only hours old). She has sat and sat for 24 days. The eggs have exploded, gone rotten, etc but she just wont get off the nest. When will a broody leave the a nest when no babies come?

I have never had a broody not hatch a single chick, but then again I have never had eggs go bad while sitting... so I have no clue how long it will take her to get off the dud nest.

Put her in a broody breaker... she is following hormones not smarts... or you can give her a couple feed store chicks.

The longer she sits, the more she looses condition. Some hens will brood themselves... to death.

OK- I assumed that chickens would realize at some point that they wont get chicks. She seems to keep eating the exploded eggs. It is quite disgusting and smelly.

Ill at least start her eviction process...

Clean her up, she probably needs a full on bath, and put her in a broody breaker.
