Hi everyone,
I've got a super broody hen, but she's not staying on her nest. The issue is that she'll sit on it during the night and then get off the nest during the day, and I'm worried that she might ruin the clutch of eggs doing this. Last month she got up to about 12 eggs and wasn't even sitting on it at all, so we finally collected them. She changed locations and is up to 16 eggs in the nest today. She's 2 this year, and I remember last year the same thing happened and she didn't start sitting on her second nest until she had an enormous amount of eggs, probably close to 20. Because we have drakes this year, the eggs should be fertile and we were hoping to have ducklings. I'm just a bit concerned that she might ruin them with her on/off behavior. Is this normal? Is there anything we can do to encourage her to sit on the nest? Thanks for any insight.
She's the center girl in the photo!
