Broody hen

I think one of my Rhode island red hens is broody. When I tried to collect eggs this morning,the hen fluffed her feathers,and made a noise.Because I have 2 nest boxes,it is okay that she sits there.Do I have a broody hen?

She might just be laying her egg. Does she stay on the nest all the time, except to get up and eat/drink once a day? If so, then yes, she is broody.

Normally a hen becomes broody if she acts like that for 24 hours.

I have 5 roosters.2 bantams,1 barred rock,1 Dominique, and one Welsummer.

My chicken got off the nest,but she was in the coop,getting a drink of water.

Keep an eye on her, If she gets back on the nest, and stays there over night, then shes broody.
When my hens go broody I like to move them to a separate coop where they can be by themselves. If they sit in the same coop with the other birds you tend to have problems such as other hens getting in the nest and laying more eggs, the broody hen getting into the wrong nest and letting her eggs chill, etc.
