Broody hen

So my hen has only been in the nesting box 10 minuets, but still. It doesn’t look like the is laying because her butt is sticking out, and sh won’t move when I come near. Broody? She is fluffed up too.

Probably not if she's only been in there 10 minutes. If she doesn't move or do anything then definitely not. With her butt sticking out she's probably about to lay an egg

Usually Broodys will hiss or make a weird noise and fluff up thier feathers when you come near

Oh my goodness! I thought her tail in the first pic was her head!!! Ok yes I am really sorry: that's the exact same thing one of my hens was doing when she went broody! But you could take advantage of it like we did. We bought some fertilized eggs and now have a couple of chicks running around with mama Daisy

But the sad thing is i already have 4 5 weekers in there running around like babies

Oooh well just make sure that the broody doesn't get near them, or you could bring her inside your house for a little to "break" the broodiness

I can already tell she’s gonna be a goon mama. There was one egg in the other nesting box, so I put it under her. Still happily sitting
