Broody hen

What was cute while the chicks were learning is our Rooster had the chicks following him around like a mama would do. It was cute to watch. Prior to letting the chicks lose Rooster would watch them in their area of the coop.

Last fall my senior cockerel -- then only 6 months old and barely beginning to court the hens took a big brotherly interest in the chicks.

I didn't see it myself, but my son told me that they even made their first visits outside into the run under Ludwig's watchful escort.

Ya! You usually can! Sometimes they won’t take them, but usually they will. Just keep an eye on them and have a backup brooder just in case! @Pierre duck drake you have broody hens a lot right?

Not yet. Mine are only 9 weeks old. I am thinking ahead for next spring.

I didn’t say it was. Thats just what i was saying before. She is adopting against her own will. Poor mom.
