Broody Hen

Is it possible for a broody hen to not lay?
For a week now she hasn't been cleaning herself. Her vent is very dirty and the feathers around her head are slightly white, it looks as if paint was dripped on them. I have quarentined her in a dog kennel and she is eating and acting fine. What is wrong with her?!?

Broody hens stop laying. I would continue to monitor her condition, but as long as she is eating and acting fine - I ould not be too concerned.

The hen is spending time on the nesting box rather than roosting with the others at night. We have cleaned her back-side a couple of times with a cloth and warm water. Any thoughts?
