Okay, once a year or so I can handle! I may even let them have some chicks if it's going to be that infrequent, since we'll need to replace hens after a while.

Yes. Sometimes, giving a hen chicks will break her broody spell the fastest.

I have 1 hen that has been sitting too long. Last year she successfully hatched 1, but a few others died under her. I check through out the day and evening, to see when she is off the nest so I can check the nest, but I haven't caught her off in a week. Should I try to move her off to be sure they haven't died?

I kept thinking of posting this question for a few days, but just did it this morning. Then I went back outside and there she was off nest and stretching. None have hatched, but 1 is beginning to crack the shell. Now the real waiting begins!
