What is the temperature of a brooding hen's breast? I'm trying to hatch an egg she abandoned inside.

Thanks, Kelsie. I'm trying to help an abandoned egg hatch. There is a hole with the beak coming out but it hasn't zipped all around yet. I have the egg in a box with a heat lamp and I'm trying to keep the temperature regulated. Would there be anywhere I could buy an incubator in a store at this late hour? Does Walmart sell them?

Hope somebody else chimes in with some ideas here. Some Walmarts do carry incubators in the pet section, have seen Hovabators, they run around $80-100. You need to get the humidity high if it has pipped, so putting it in a plastic or glass bowl might be better or the box in a plastic bag, humidity is going to be really important right now. Here is a thread where somebody hatched an egg using a glass bowl and a desk lamp maybe you can do something similar? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/750468/new-australian-hatching-mystery-egg-at-home Check out this really nice article on Hatching eggs, if it has dried out you may have to assist the hatch to give it a chance. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101
