I was just wondering, can hens still go broody if eggs are not fertile?

I think so, they don't know the difference or do they? I know silkies will go broody on a fake egg

Yes. Broodiness is genetic and when the hormones (of the hen) are right, it will happen. A broody will sit on non-fertile eggs or even golf balls for a looooonnnnggg time. At the point that she goes broody, I'd either order some fertile eggs for her to sit on or try to cure her of her broodiness. (There are other posts here that talk about how to do that).

I just had two broody hens that sat on air for two weeks. I wished them best of luck hatching it and went about my business. I gave up last time trying to break them out of being broody.
BTW In case you're wondering, no, they did not produce any chicks from the vapors in spite of all their efforts.

would hens that has not start laying eggs go broody too?
