well, I have my first broody. I have 8 egg layers, now 7. haha. Just when they had all finally started to lay eggs. She is a Buff Orpington/White leghorn cross. She's been trying to hatch golf balls for almost 6 full days now. I think she's committed, so tonite I'm putting 8 mixed eggs under her. Should have some cute mutts. The roo is an EE.
So expected date of arrival March 6, give or take a day.
Fingers crossed. THis is my first ever broody. So a rookie. But, learning real quick, haha.
She's been moved to a large dog kennel, with hay , food and water. Yesterday she got scrambled eggs. Must keep her weight as stable as possible, as I know she will lose some.
Yeah! emjay. We're all learning together.
This am I went to check on my broody. She is on day 16. I watched her turn around on the nest. While she did so, she was clucking the entire time. When she got settled, she stopped. I read somewhere on BYC these past few days, that the hen will listen to the chicks' peeping to get to know them. She must feel they are doing well, if she is talking to them already.
I also have a broody hen She is a buff also. I have 8 eggs under her, also going to be adorable mutts, since I don't have my chickens seperated until spring. They should be hatching on the 2nd of March.
