This our first year raising chickens and I must say having a broody makes raising new born chicks a cinch. Our buff Orpington was not even a year old and she hatched 12 out of 15. It has been two weeks and they are all chipper and active. We lost half of our original batch by this time last year. It is kind of nice just putting out feed and water for them and enjoying their antics instead of worrying about them getting too cold or drowning or something getting them.
A good broody hen is the way to go.
