I'm sure this question has been asked before, I have a little mallard girl that seems to insist on building a nest, I was taking her eggs and she was still building , I took her nest and she started another one, I finally decided to see what she was going to do and she built her nest in a bad place so I lost two eggs they were stepped on and broken so I moved the nest into one of my nest boxes thinking since I fooled with it she would not mess with it anymore. Well she went to it and is still laying and still moving stuff around I will go out one day and they are all covered I will go out the next and they aren't. She spends some time in their but not a lot do you think she is going broody? Or do they all build a nest to lay in? She is not the only one laying there I have another mallard that is laying in the same nest.

My runners go through different levels of broody. Some will sit a couple of hours a day, some will park their bodies on the nest and only leave twice a day for 20 minutes to poop, eat, drink, swim, run around giving everyone the stink eye, then back on the nest.

I'll tell you I sure would like her to hatch some babies I told my hubby he was going to have to build me another house

She has been sitting most of the day but came off the nest so I decided to snap a picture.
