So how many of you pull eggs from under your broody to candle them? I have 2 first time broody serama with 10 eggs each in their nest. I'm afraid to candle them for fear that they might abandon them, with this being their first time and all.

I've done it in the past with no trouble. I just went out at night with my candling light, pulled the eggs out from under the hen to candle them, and then when I was done, set them back down in front of her. She rolled them under her belly and went right on being broody. True broodiness is a very stubborn state--just ask anyone who's had a tough broody they were trying to break!

The biggest thing you'll need to watch out for is the hen biting you when you try to take the eggs. I'm fortunate in that my hens are very calm with me, but I've seen broodies draw blood on grabby hands before.

My hens are quite calm and let me pet them while they're broody. Thanks for your advice. I'm going to give that a try. :)
