I got a bantam friz started on the 17th. She's got 4 standard eggs. Two EE's and two Dels. Last time she hatched 3 standards and 2 bantams out of 4 standards and 2 bantams. She looked like a pancake.
I hope she does as well on this hatch. The EE's are crossed with a Lavender Ameraucana. I have her hatching them for a friend. The Dels are mine just cuz. I dont' really want or need the chicks.
Guesstimating we are on day 6 or 7. Sooo... just 2 more weeks to go, right? Hoping so, the suspense is killing me!!! What do you do with the eggs that don't hatch? And how do you get a broody hen-raptor off her beloved nest? Is it the wrong thing for me to do to clean her nest for her so she is more comfy? I just want things to be clean and healthy for her.
i put the eggs that dont hatch on the rail out side and let them chill but first i break the shell to checkif it isny alive. then then i put them in the woods.
I have a hen that has been "setting" for a couple of weeks. I don't have a rooster so no eggs to give her. I am thinking about getting her a couple of day old chicks and putting them under her at night hoping she will raise them. Years ago when I was living on a farm I heard this was possible but have never tried it. Does anyone have any experience doing this? How long should I wait into her "brooding"?
