Broody problem? or not?

Tonight I was prepared to help the other two chicks up on the roost, should they still not have the idea. Nope, tonight mama didn't even attempt to take them up there. Maybe she figured out they weren't ready for that particular feat yet? Who knows! Still a good mama during the day though, never far from her babies.

Chickens!

Mine wound up back in their nest with mama on the perch. When they tried to gather around her in the coop at dusk, she pecked in their direction. So much for her teaching them to roost. She had ignored them all day. She did keep looking at them anxiously from the roost, though. Guess the hormones haven't quite faded all the way.

I'm just hoping my poor girl will be inclined to give these babies just a couple more weeks, just till warmer weather is well under way. She seems pretty devoted, having set for more than 30 days before she got anything to hatch. She's digging huge holes in the backyard every day finding them worms and makes sure they each get some.
