Broody Question

I watched a youtube video a while back showing a broody hen that DID know the difference between fake eggs and real ones. I tried to bring it up to see if that hen was a buff orpington and my computer froze each time I tried. If you're interested type in, "youtrube broody hen dummy eggs", and the video comes up.

My hens know the difference between real and fake eggs. I even have one who rejects eggs from other breeds. They will all kick fake eggs out of the nest.
I did have a broody rooster once though (I know that's a weird concept, lol) He;s a Silkie, and he sat on a tennis ball and a golf ball for three weeks, diligently turning them and protecting them...he is a really weird rooster...He did great helping a hen hatch some real eggs though :-D

A hen that is going broody will some times lay for a few days to build up the number of eggs she sits on and sit on eggs from other hens too. The eggs will be ok for a few days. It's your call but if your rooster is attacking your feet to the point of need to carry a stick with you I'd cull him and get a new rooster that wasn't mean. Aggression is an inherited trait and will be passed on to the sons. Trust me 1 bad roo is a pain 2 or 3 is much worse. There are a lot of nice boys out there and can be had cheap or some times free. I have a one strike rule, you come at me 1 time your gone and will never be allowed to breed at my place. I have neither the time or Patience to be watching out for a rooster. Good boys are best for me and the girls.

X2, I'd get a good boy...there's plenty to be had. I had a mean roo once and bred him one time. Two chicks hatched. A hen and a roo. The hen was nice enough...a little nippy, but not too bad. The rooster, was an absolute little snot. Both were rehomed. I never cull anyone...I know I probably should but oh well...
I have good roosters in the twenties, and have only had one mean one. They're easy to find and so much better to have around.
