I have a broody that has been sitting on eggs since Friday, but we have 6 chicks that are partially integrated but still living within a separate coop and smaller run within our giant 20'x30' run. I plan to have my broody hatch and raise her incubating eggs/chicks in that smaller coop (I'll call it the Red Coop). The eggs are due June 14th, if you didn't want to calculate that.

So my only concern and question is...will she stay on the eggs, even in the Red Coop? I'm not sure if she has ever been in the Red Coop, so I don't know if she will be comfortable and stay, even though it has nesting boxes.

TIA!

Many hens accept moving of themselves and their eggs to a new site - especially if it is done at night, and the new site is relatively confined. Others are more focused on the picked 'site' rather than the eggs and will break broodiness. Is there any possiblity to allow her to set where she is and then move her when the chicks hatch ?

That's probably the best way to go about it if u want to het better results

Hmm...I could try and just put some type of barrier in the opening of the nesting boxes...They're just dishpans attached with velcro, so do you think if I took out the dishpan and just had her sit on the eggs on the floor she could be ok? Should I supply food and water? How long should I wait until moving the chicks and broody to the other coop after hatch?
