Broody royal palm help

Hi there!

My royal palm was missing all day today, we found her in the woods with a clutch of eggs. I’m excited that she’s gone broody, however there is one problem.

She’s in the woods, I don’t want a predator to get her, she’s a pet. My hubby thinks she’ll be fine, that if something comes she’ll just fly away. But I still worry. I’ve thought about moving her nest to the coop, but I’m worried she may abandon it.

What do you think is the best next step?

If you had spare fencing then you could probably do something temporary with that around the nest.

I’ve considered that as well, we have a spare dog run that I thought of using. But she’s by a rock pile so the ground is really uneven so it would be easy for something to get underneath.

If predators can get her, most likely they will, at night she will not fly away, move her to a safe place at night and take your chances, the other option if you have a predator proof cage you can put it over her with skirting to prevent predator digging in.

If she is a pet as well then I think if it was me I would move her.
Put her and the eggs in the dog crate during the night in the coop or somewhere safe, if she has a clutch she won't want to leave them.

If your woods are anything like mine, she'll never make 28 days. I'd take the risk of moving her and if she abandons the eggs, then put them in the bator. Be careful when getting a hold of her. Broody turkeys can get pretty nasty. All depends on the turkey.

I don't know much about turkeys, except that they aren't that bright (e.g. my neighbor's turkey decided to take a swim with the ducks...), but I do have pets, and I'd say move the turkey, and hatch the eggs in an incubator. Or you could just move the rocks and put up the fence.
