BROODY RUNNER?

I have a runner duck that is sitting on a nest of 12 I believe I've read spot that runners don't go broody but this is day 4 and she's been dedicated to the nest. Question is if she does hatch these eggs should I take the ducklings from her I hear there not the best mothers or just let her do her thing.

First of all, I'm pretty sure that's not a Blue Runner. .

It would be best to have an incubator set up as a backup. Many ducks will start brooding and quit half way through. Disturb her as little as possible. If you can give a safe enclosure away from the others were you won't have to open the door to collect eggs, etc. she will do best. Then you don't have to disturb her. She will most likely do fine raising here own ducklings, but the other ducks will most likely try and attack her/them, especially drakes. Again a safe enclosure away from the others is best. Hopefully she'll continue through.

I'll agree with all of the above, except that I've never had a drake attack a duckling. Ducks are far more likely to go after ducklings in my personal experience.

I'd let her do her thing, but have a plan 'B' in mind in case she breaks broodiness or is indeed a poor mother.

Qould this be the Indian runner ? I bought her with blue runners and just now learning about ducks.

I can't tell if it's a Chocolate Runner or a Khaki Campbell when it's sitting down. But it could be either one.

Must be a chocolate I have a khaki Campbell and there night and day different lol
