I don't think the age will be a huge problem. Just because a chicken is older doesn't mean it has more experience. You will never know until you try, anyways.

I guess I never realized you were saying that was your only hen...I would say get rid of the rooster and let your broody hatch some chicks. She needs friends and if she hatched some it would be easiest, since there would be no trouble with integration of a single hen to others.

Im assuming, by the original post, its just the one hen.. could be wrong tho.

I'm a little confused at how they only have 2 and no more....Especially if one is a rooster.

I think.. they had 2 from the start and thought both were hens..

I only got two thinking they were hens. We don’t have a lot of room in our backyard to keep more due to lake. But she came out of her mood. And laid her first egg today so now I know what to do.

Yes there are only two, don’t have a lot of room in the backyard due to a big lake so made a little area for them. I am going to get another hen soon.
