broody then not broody

You know, I thought about trying to close it somehow, but then I wondered if it would hinder the chick trying to hatch...

Maybe give it a try next time, there's nothing to lose and a chick should be able to peck through a thin line of nail polish that is on the crack. If the nail polish is visible, you could always do a tiny "assist" where the polish crosses the zip line.

Just wondering how thick your eggshells are. Most of the time when I get an egg to crack or a chicken pokes a hole in it with her toenail while walking on them they are unusually thin-shelled. That’s whether it is under a broody hen or just a regular egg in a regular nest. Hens just going on a nest to lay an egg, or come off after laying an egg, will walk on the eggs. Broodies will walk on them too. Watching that, I’m surprised more eggs don’t get cracked or have holes poked into them.
