Broody w/the Attitude! 😂

That’s good! What breeds/mixes are the broodies hatching?

We have 2 roo’s (RIR & Barred Rock) although the Barred Rock gets very little action since RIR is an alpha. So I’m assuming he will be the father of most.

We have a mixed breed flock with our most common of our original 18 being Barred Rocks, a few RIR, Buff Orpington’s (the other broody is a buff), a couple Wyandotte’s, couple mixed breed hens, & 1 Splash Ameracauna that we got from someone who had to get rid of their flock. I believe she’s older so not sure if her eggs will be fertile or not, but there are 3 of hers under the broody. She lays eggs 5/6 days per week.

I have some EE & black Australorps pullets who are just now reaching laying age but nothing from them yet. So, should be a fun mix!

I don’t have a rooster, so as much as I want to I can’t let her hatch anything. And I’m done with chicks for this year.
She’s only 2, and has done this every spring. I’m sure she will become just as vehemently broody next year, so I will purchase pullet chicks for her and sell them when they are old enough and she has weaned them.

She’s a Dominique hen, so not even a very broody breed.
But BOY is she broody. Quite aggressive when I try to remove her eggs.

I love this picture! Hahaha! This is how my Sussex acts other than puffing up and trying to resemble an armored tank.

I don’t have any Dominiques but a friend of mine used to raise them and they’re her favorite breed. sounds like you have a great plan for next time and I bet she will be a great mama!

I have a red sexlink pullet that’s been on eggs a week now. And my barred rock that raised two clutches and was broody broken the third time last year. Both sat same day. My nest box pecking order is all chaos at the moment.
