My chicken went broody for about 2 months, so I finally got 12 fertile eggs, and she stopped 3 days, 'till hatch![]()
Ouch. Sorry to hear it.

I've only had one hen go broody and I was pretty skeptical that she would even follow through on it, but I put six assorted eggs in her nest to see what happened. My skepticism was so great that when it looked like she had left the eggs for an extended period, I figured she had abandoned them...and put them in the trash. She returned a while later (not an unreasonable amount of time later, I know now) and was frantic about her missing eggs, so I pulled them back out of the trash bin - fortunately, I had gently placed them atop a pile of mostly paper towels so none had been damaged - and put them back in her nest. She resumed her incubation duties and successfully hatched 3 chicks, whom she let ride around on her back. She was an excellent, super-protective mom. She never seemed like a particularly "motherly" hen, but I guess you just never know.
I hope you have better luck with your next broody, if you go that route. Maybe keep an incubator handy, just in case..?
