Hi, I am on day 9. 2 days ago I found a very wet nest. A broken egg in with the broody and on all five eggs. I WIPED THEM WITH A DRY CLOTH. Removed the broody to a clean private nest with the dried eggs.
II did wash her up with water as she was coated in yolk.
Will the eggs still hatch?

Should I remove them ?
I did candle them and all 5 have a large spot in it- so something is developing.
I didnt see any heart beat or movement but it was only 8 days.
This broody is very focused
IF the eggs are not viable at what point can I place little chicks under her?
Thanks!
I had so many questions - read a few articles on this but never heard of an outcome.

This happened to me but it was more than one egg. And worse I didn’t discover it for a few hours so i had to use a wet cloth and scrub to get the dried egg yolk off. I got one chick out of a dozen eggs. I hope your hatch goes better! It sounds like you got to it quickly. I just read a good method for cleaning eggs in this situation but I can’t find it. If I do I will let you know

Thanks! I figured if it is fruitless then I should remove them and break the broody or place chicks under her

I found it! This is from an ancient poultry manual: “Eggs may be washed lightly with clear, pure water only. The water should be quite warm and the egg washed quickly and gently and returned to the nest”
It sounds like you have clean dry eggs and they’re back under the hen so they have a chance! Candle again in a few days and let us know how it goes!

Oh boy- I did have some egg dried on them. I took a better flashlight
One egg clearly shows an eye and chick body- one egg was slightly cooler - she might of discarded it

So now I am tempted to stop her from being broody- 🤷‍♀️
This is the first time I got fertile eggs. As I have a all hen flock now of 16. Several dont lay-

Augh - I didnt see much movement in the egg.
