Broody without roo?

Agree with above, yes a hen can go broody without a rooster, it doesn't really have anything to do with the rooster. And actually it's not all that pointless for a hen to go broody without a rooster. You could buy/get hatching eggs an let her hatch them rather than through an incubator if you don't have an incubator or just want to let her hatch some chicks if she does get broody.
 
I have an old lady buff Orpington called Pam that not only doesn’t have a husband..she doesn’t even lay eggs anymore and she STILL goes broody every spring :)

By hatch eggs, @RodNTN means to fertilize eggs. You don't need them to incubate.
