Broody

Ameraucanas aren't supposed to typically go broody either, but I had one that was a year old that was broody just one time, this past spring...never since. I had the same experience, but she was on the floor in the corner, out of sight, under the nest boxes, and was sitting on everyone's eggs for several days. I wondered where they all were! SHEESH! I think what happens is when they see ONE go broody, they all lay quite close to her so she can easily move their egg to the nest. That's my guess anyhow! Neat story - thanks for sharing!

A.J.'s :

I must know...did she move those eggs to her nest and if so HOW did she move those eggs to her nest?

I've caught my silkies in the act! They roll them with their beaks! My nestboxes are 5 gal buckets, so there's no lip to get over. They're very gentle - they've never cracked one, yet.

I have 4 broodies right now

I ended up giving mine some eggs - their determination to brood was stronger than my determination to break their broodiness

2 of the girls hatched out their babies and are taking care of them really well, so I hope the others work out, too.

Ridgefire - I LOVE your story! You have a gift for writing - I could picture every scene
